Today's Challenge:

Listen to Kings of Leon's "Red Morning Light" (off of Youth & Young Manhood) without playing air guitar/tapping your foot/bobbing your head/singing along (if you can understand what Caleb is saying).

What a great fucking song. Thanks, iTunes Genius thingy.

I haven't really futzed with the Genius bar. My impression is that it suggests which music you would like based off your current list. If that's the case, how did the Genius bar help you?

[Tapping my foot to Red Morning Light as I type]

Re-considering the Kings concert in November. All those hot chicks were there b/c Kings sold out, so it would have been a perfect world if they'd eshewed their new stuff so we got both the hot chicks and the good music.

Kings of Leon in four words:
Sex
Sweat
Whiskey
Loud

Whenever I listen to the Kings I'm reminded of long trips back to Nebraska and soon-to-be-Mrs-D3 begging me to turn down the volume while I play air guitar/head bang/butcher the lyrics.

Thanks for the recommendation Rubes, instant mood improver.

Re: Genius. I was listening to Spoon this morning, clicked on the "Start Genius" button, and it popped up 25 songs I might like to listen to. The first was "Red Morning Light." And I did a little dance.

The first two KoL albums, for me, anyway, are up there with anything that's been done in the last ten years.

I haven't figured out the "genius" yet either but Dr. Don won't shut up about it.

I'm heading to Lolla next week Friday to see Kings of Leon as the headliner. Check out this lineup I'll be attempting to catch...
Gaslight Anthem (eh, early show)
Fleet Foxes
Bon Iver
Ben Folds
The Decemberists
Of Montreal
Kings of Leon

Not familiar with Gaslight Anthem - fill me in.

I'm not sure how Fleet Foxes or Bon Iver would be live. I love Bon Iver (I'm an NPR listener, it's required) and I've warmed up to the Fleet Foxes.

I would rather eat rusty jacks than watch Ben Folds (She's a brick...).

The Decemberists will be fun, particularly the aforementioned Shara Worden.

I've never gotten into Of Montreal, stupid REM loving Athens natives confusing me on their country of origin. I'm assuming they love REM, but it's a good bet.

KoL will be a good closer, hopefully there will be some good eye candy and sex, sweat whiskey and loud.

I know it may not sound like it, but I'm jealous as hell of that lineup. I keep saying I'll go to Lolla one year, but never do. Maybe next year...

Red Morning Light is a great song. It's been played at Miller Park all year. That audio guy is good.

The lineup was a total cream dream for me. I'm not a big Ben Folds fan but he fills a spot and my cousin says he puts on a good show.

Gaslight Anthem has like one song that gets radio play. They are more a space filler to get my day started.

Of Montreal, I don't know much of their stuff so I should probably download a couple of songs. But, I've read up on them and the lead singer is a total freak and cites Bowie as his biggest influence. I'm going just to see what he does.

Decemberists and KoL are definitely worth the money. The rest is just gravy.

I would (and have) paid $35 each to see KoL and the Decemberists. Add in FF, BI and OM and it's totally worth it.
